Abstract :
Purpoe
To report the ultratructural and elemental feature of two opacified intraocular lene (IOL).
Deign
Hitopathologic cae erie.
Method
Two opaque hydrophilic acrylic IOL (Hydroview H60M, Bauch & Lomb urgical Clearwater, Florida, UA) explanted from two Chinee patient in Taiwan. The explanted IOL were evaluated by light microcopy, canning electron microcopy, and energy-diperive x-ray pectrocopy.
Reult
Brownih granular and cattered crytal-like depoit were found in cae 2, wherea only fine white granular depoit were found in cae 1. Uing EDX pectrocopy, the element of depoit on IOL optic were calcium and phophoru in cae 1, but in cae 2, fluorine, magneium, and odium were demontrated in addition to calcium and phophoru.
Concluion
Our tudy indicated a difference in morphology and element of depoit on opaque IOL optic between thee two cae. It wa uggeted that multiple element may contribute to the formation of depoit.
