Abstract :
Purpoe To examine the aociation of ytemic marker of inflammatory dieae and endothelial dyfunction with age-related maculopathy (ARM). Deign (1) Neted cae-control analyi of prevalent ARM and (2) propective analye of incident ARM in a random ample of a population-baed cohort. Method tandardized protocol for blood collection, meaurement of marker, adminitration of a quetionnaire, and grading of tereocopic color fundu photography to determine ARM were ued. tandard univariate and multivariate analye were performed. participant: Included in the neted cae-control tudy were 188 cae with moderate to advanced ARM and 195 control matched for age, gender, and current moking tatu at a baeline examination from 1988 to 1990, and living in Beaver Dam, Wiconin. Included in the propective analye a a random ample of 321 peron were thoe who participated in a 5-year and/or 10-year follow-up. main outcome meaure: Prevalent and incident ARM. Reult erum C-reactive protein, amyloid A, interleukin-6, tumor necroi factor-α, intracellular adheion molecule, E-electin, folate, and Chlamydia pneumoniae IgG antibody were not aociated with either prevalent or incident ARM. Concluion Contrary to other report, we cannot confirm a trong or conitent relationhip of marker of inflammation and endothelial dyfunction with ARM
