Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate electroretinography (ERG) during long-term follow-up in birdhot chorioretinopathy (BCR). Deign Retropective, comparative interventional cae erie. Method etting: Univerity ubpecialty clinic. patient population: Twenty-three HLA-A29-poitive patient with BCR and 40 normal control ubject. intervention procedure: Patient were monitored with ERG approximately annually. Treatment wa according to bet medical judgment. main outcome meaure: Baeline ERG value, viion, and ERG value during oberved and treated interval. Reult Median age of patient wa 52 year, and 19 patient were untreated at baeline. Eighty-two ERG were performed. Eighteen patient had more than one ERG; mean follow-up of thee patient wa 40.2 month ± 31.2, median 23 month. At baeline, everal ERG parameter were tatitically reduced compared with control ubject when adjuted for age. The combined rod-cone and cone b/a wave ratio did not differ from control ubject (P = .45 and 0.14). cotopic rod and combined rod-cone b-wave amplitude were tatitically correlated with baeline viion, a were implicit time for the combined rod-cone a-wave, cone a-wave, and cone flicker b-wave. Median viual acuity wa 20/25 and did not change during follow-up. Mot ERG parameter howed marked worening during oberved interval. During treated interval, the ERG declined at a rate conitent with aging. Concluion Many ERG parameter in patient with BCR greatly differ from control ubject, correlate with viion, and woren during obervation. elected patient may how improvement in ERG with treatment. The cone b-wave flicker implicit time wa mot often aociated with clinically important meaure uch a viion, duration of ymptom, and deviation from normalcy.
