ilicone Veru Collagen Plug for Treating Dry Eye: Reult of a Propective Randomized Trial Including Lacrimal cintigraphy

Purpoe To compare the hort-term efficacy of collagen and ilicone plug for treating dry eye uing quantitative lacrimal cintigraphy. Deign Propective randomized clinical trial. Method In thi intitutional tudy, 24 dry eye patient were evaluated in two group: group I (n = 22 eye) received collagen plug and group II (n = 26 eye) received ilicone plug. Comparion were made with normal control ubject (n = 22 eye). Data for the chirmer I tet, tear break-up time, and ocular urface taining with roe bengal dye were recorded before and after punctal occluion. Lacrimal cintigraphy wa performed at each time point, and the time to half maximum activity on the ocular urface (T1/2), and the percentage retention of activity on the ocular urface at the end of the dynamic tudy (RI) were recorded. Reult In both patient group, chirmer I reult, tear break-up time, and roe bengal taining core improved ignificantly after plug inertion. Mean T1/2 value and RI value increaed ignificantly in both group (P < .0001 for both). The difference for thee value between group I and II wa tatitically inignificant (P > .05). Concluion Collagen and ilicone plug both reulted in ignificant increae in aqueou tear volume, half-life of nuclear material on the ocular urface, and percentage of nuclear material retention. The group’ pot-inertion value for all parameter were imilar. Thee reult ugget that thee two plug type have imilar efficacy a treatment for dry eye in the hort term. Further tudie evaluating long-term reult are required.
