Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the clinical feature, viual function outcome, and advere event in patient with diffue unilateral ubacute neuroretiniti (DUN) treated with high-doe oral albendazole.
Deign
Interventional cae erie.
Method
Twelve Brazilian patient, aged 7 through 36 year, with active DUN in the early or late clinical tage, were recruited for thi tudy between 1999 and 2001. A mall variant motile worm wa found in 4 (33.3%) of thee cae. All patient were treated excluively with high-doe oral albendazole (400 mg/d) for 30 day.
Reult
Improvement of viual acuity, viual field, and active ocular inflammatory ign wa oberved in all patient after 4 week of treatment (median follow-up: 3 year). Alo, during the firt week of treatment, evidence of worm inactivation wa documented for the four patient with viible worm. No advere drug ide effect were oberved in any of our cae during follow-up.
Concluion
High-doe oral albendazole eem to be afe and beneficial for patient with DUN.
