Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate gender difference among children diagnoed with intermittent exotropia. Deign Retropective, population-baed cohort tudy. Method The medical record of all Olmted County, Minneota reident younger than 19 year diagnoed with intermittent exotropia from January 1, 1975, through December 31, 1994, were reviewed. Reult One hundred eighteen (64.1%) of the 184 tudy patient were girl with an age-adjuted incidence rate of 38.3 (95% CI: 31.4–45.2) per 100,000 compared to 20.8 (95% CI: 15.7–25.8) per 100,000 for boy (P < .0001). There were no ignificant difference between girl and boy in their family hitory of trabimu, birth weight, prevalence of prematurity, age at diagnoi and urgery, refractive error, and initial angle of deviation. Concluion Intermittent exotropia wa nearly twice a common in girl compared with boy in thi defined population. There were, however, no ignificant hitorical or clinical difference between the gender.
