Abstract :
Purpoe To review the current tatu of phakic intraocular lene (IOL), intraocular treatment of prebyopia, and IOL that filter ome blue light. Deign Review of current information on the ubject from numerou ource. Method Medline earch and Internet earch engine on the topic of phakic IOL, prebyopia or multifocal IOL, and blue light and macular degeneration. Reult An iri fixated phakic IOL i now approved in the United tate (U). There are concern for corneal endothelial tability and late dilocation. Other approache include anterior chamber fixation with concern of corneal endothelial tability and pupil elongation, and poterior chamber fixation with concern of cataract formation, IOL dilocation, and pigment diperion. Intraocular treatment of prebyopia include monoviion, multifocal, and accommodative IOL. Which approach i uperior today i till not clear. There are IOL deigned to block ome blue light to potentially leen the rik of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD). While there i preumptive evidence of thi, no definitive tudy how uch a correlation. Color perception iue are unlikely to be a problem. While decreaed cotopic viion ha been propoed, there i no tudy that prove thi i an iue of clinical ignificance. Concluion The IOL field i dynamic with many new choice. Phakic IOL and treatment of prebyopia will be an increaingly important part of ophthalmology; however, there are important unreolved iue. With better evidence that blue light i an important variable in ARMD, uch an approach could rapidly become the tandard.
