A practical approach to the evaluation of the patient with TMVL mut be baed on the patient’ age and the upected underlying etiology. In the older patient, tet hould be performed to invetigate giant cell arteriti, atheroclerotic large veel dieae, and cardiac abnormalitie. In the younger patient, TMVL i uually benign and the evaluation hould be tailored to the particular clinical etting. Concluion pecific prevention trategie are tailored to the mot likely caue of TMVL and the patient’ underlying rik factor. Prevention of a future event hould begin in the ophthalmologit’ office with education and aggreive treatment of artheroclerotic rik factor.
