Abstract :
Purpoe
To report inflow of extraocular fluid after phacoemulification with ue of uturele corneal inciion.
Deign
Interventional cae erie.
Method
etting: Wilmer Eye Intitute, John Hopkin Hopital, Baltimore, Maryland. patient: Eight patient (three women), aged 58 to 91 year, howing minimal bleeding from the limbal capillary bed during phacoemulification. intervention: urgery wa performed through a 2.8-mm limbal inciion. External preure imulating patient manipulation wa applied before and after wound hydroealing with an irrigation cannula. main outcome meaure: Inflow of blood-tinged tear fluid into the anterior chamber through the wound wa monitored by uing digital video.
Reult
Inflow of extraocular fluid wa oberved in all eye when the cannula wa releaed, even after wound hydroealing. Two patient howed pontaneou fluid inflow.
Concluion
Teted uturele corneal inciion allow inflow of extraocular fluid into the anterior chamber after phacoemulification. Thi may permit intraocular contamination leading to endophthalmiti.
