Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the longitudinal change in multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) in patient receiving hydroxychloroquine and to ae the effect of cumulative hydroxychloroquine doe on mfERG. Deign Propective cohort tudy. Method Twenty-four eye in 12 patient receiving hydroxychloroquine underwent mfERG recording at baeline and 1 to 2 year later. The firt negative (N1) and firt poitive (P1) repone amplitude and peak latencie were compared with normal control. erial change in the pattern of mfERG abnormalitie and in repone amplitude and peak latencie were alo compared between eye in which hydroxychloroquine therapy wa continued or topped. Correlation analye were performed to ae the effect of a cumulative doe of hydroxychloroquine on mfERG. Reult At baeline, reduction in N1 and P1 repone amplitude were oberved in patient receiving hydroxychloroquine compared with control. At follow-up, in addition to the reduction in N1 and P1 repone amplitude, increae in P1 peak latencie compared with control were oberved. In patient who topped hydroxychloroquine therapy, there were ignificant increae in N1 and P1 repone amplitude at follow-up mfERG. Concluion Patient receiving hydroxychloroquine howed a longitudinal decline in retinal function; patient who topped hydroxychloroquine therapy howed improvement. Although thee data are inufficient to demontrate the enitivity of mfERG for evaluating early hydroxychloroquine toxicity, the reult ugget that erial mfERG aement may help detect early retinal change aociated with hydroxychloroquine therapy. Further tudie with long-term reult will be ueful in clarifying the value of mfERG in evaluating early retinal toxicity due to hydroxychloroquine.
