Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the incidence of dry eye in rheumatoid arthriti (RA) patient with or without jögren yndrome (), and to invetigate the correlation between dry eye and RA activity. Deign Propective cae-control tudy. Method In 72 RA patient, the everity of dry eye wa aeed by the chirmer tet, tear break-up time, roe bengal taining, and fluorecein taining. The RA activity wa evaluated by the Lanbury index (LI), which i baed on the duration of morning tiffne, erythrocyte edimentation rate (ER), grip trength, and joint core. Reult Ten percent of patient met the Japanee criteria for . No difference in dry eye tet or LI wa oberved between patient and non- patient. Even in the non- group, 90% of patient were diagnoed with probable dry eye. In patient, poitive correlation were oberved between LI and chirmer tet (P = .048), ER and chirmer tet (P = .035), ER and roe bengal taining (P = .001), and grip trength and roe bengal taining (P = .047). No uch correlation were oberved in the non- patient. Concluion Dry eye i common in RA patient, including thoe without . We found that there wa a correlation between LI and chirmer tet in RA patient with , but no correlation when the entire group wa analyzed. Dry eye alway hould be taken into conideration regardle of the RA activity, becaue the everity of dry eye i independent of RA activity.
