  • Abstract
Purpoe To determine the efficacy of a tiue adheive (2-octyl cyanoacrylate with paraben; Liquid Bandage, Johnon & Johnon, killman, New Jerey) in ealing clear corneal cataract wound. Deign Laboratory invetigation. Method even human donor globe were prepared for Miyake video microcopy. A 3.0-mm clear corneal inciion wa created. A trancleral cannula wa inerted and connected to a bottle of aline. The bottle height wa varied to alter intraocular preure. Droplet of India ink were placed on the wound. Main outcome meaure wa any influx of India ink into the anterior chamber a viewed through the Miyake ytem with intraocular preure (IOP) fluctuation or with manual preure. If India ink wa preent in the eye, it wa irrigated out, and the experiment wa repeated with IOP fluctuation and manual preure after the application of 2-octyl cyanoacrylate to the wound. Reult One eye demontrated the preence of India ink inide the eye on IOP reduction to <5 mm Hg. Three eye demontrated the preence of India ink inide the eye with manual preure. Three eye did not leak with manual preure or IOP variation. All even eye without glue leaked with exaggerated manual preure at the wound edge. Of the even eye with tiue adheive, none demontrated influx of India ink with IOP variation or manual wound manipulation. Concluion Our laboratory model demontrate that 2-octyl cyanoacrylate prevent the influx of ocular urface fluid independent of IOP and manual wound manipulation. Further invetigation in clinical model are neceary to determine the future ue of thi adheive barrier ubtance.
