Abstract :
Purpoe Evaluation of viual acuity outcome of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin for juxtafoveal choroidal neovacularization (CNV) econdary to multifocal choroiditi (MC). Deign Open-label, propective, interventional cae erie. Method even patient (even eye) diagnoed with juxtafoveal CNV aociated with MC at the Eye Clinic of Triete were conidered. Incluion criteria were the preence of juxtafoveal CNV no larger than 5400 μm in greatet linear dimenion and bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) (nellen equivalent) of approximately 20/200 or better. PDT wa performed according to the Treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration with Photodynamic Therapy (TAP) tudy. The primary outcome wa the variation in Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy tudy (ETDR) chart viual acuity. In particular, the tudy conidered change of at leat eight letter (approximately <1.5 line of viual acuity lo) at the 12- and 24-month examination compared with the baeline examination. econdary outcome included fluorecein angiographic feature uch a progreion and area of CNV. Reult At both the 12- and 24-month examination, three patient (43%) gained at leat 1.5 line of viual acuity, three patient (43%) did not how change in either direction, wherea viual acuity decreaed by 1.5 or more line from baeline in one patient (14%). The median CNV area wa 0.3 mm2 at baeline and 0.24 mm2 at the 12- and 24-month control, repectively. Concluion The poitive reult of the preent tudy and the abence of treatment-related ide effect ugget that PDT may be conidered a afe and viable therapeutic option for juxtafoveal CNV for a 24-month period. Further tudie including a greater number of patient are needed to confirm thee preliminary reult.
