Method Publihed tudie and information found in PubMed, International Bibliographic Information of Dietary upplement, and elected webite were reviewed for the role of nutritional and herbal medicine in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. The tudie were evaluated ytematically for their tudy deign, tudy population, benefit, rik, biae, and criteria for the categorization of the level of evidence. Reult The available evidence doe upport the ue of certain vitamin and mineral in patient with certain form of age-related macular degeneration. For cataract, the available evidence doe not upport thee upplement to prevent or treat cataract in healthy individual. For diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, the available evidence doe not upport the ue of thee upplement. In the category of herbal medicine, the available evidence doe not upport the ue of herbal medicine for any of thee ocular dieae. Concluion Becaue of the widepread ue of nutritional upplement and herbal medicine, ophthalmologit hould be aware of their ue o that they can inform patient properly when the upplement and herbal medicine are being ued for eye dieae.
