Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine whether rubella viru (RV) i involved in the pathogenei of Fuch heterochromic iridocycliti (FHI).
Deign
Retropective patient-controlled tudy.
Method
Intraocular immunoglobulin G production againt RV, herpe implex viru (HV), varicella zoter viru (VZV), and Toxoplama gondii wa determined in the aqueou humor of 14 patient with FHI, 13 control ubject with herpetic uveiti anterior, and 19 control ubject with ocular toxoplamoi by calculation of the Goldmann-Witmer coefficient (GWC).
Reult
All patient and control ubject were eropoitive for RV. Intraocular antibody production (GWC >3) againt RV wa found in 13 of 14 patient (93%) with FHI. Intraocular antibody production againt HV, VZV, or T gondii wa not detected. None of the control ubject with herpetic uveiti anterior or with toxoplama chorioretiniti had a poitive GWC for rubella viru (P < .0001, Fiher exact tet).
Concluion
Rubella viru, but not HV, VZV, or T gondii, i aociated with FHI.
