Abstract :
Purpoe To decribe a patient with ymptomatic Heimann-Bielchowky phenomenon (HBP) treated uccefully with oral gabapentin. Deign Interventional cae report. Method A 57-year-old patient with retiniti pigmentoa had a 12-month hitory of vertical ocillopia. The right viual acuity wa 20/200 and the left viual acuity wa 20/60 with glae. He had a coare, low, pendular, vertical movement of the right eye conitent with Heimann-Bielchowky phenomenon. Hi treatment commenced with oral gabapentin with gradual increae in doe to 2400 mg/d. Eye movement recording were performed before and after treatment. Reult He became coniderably le ymptomatic on gabapentin. The right viual acuity improved to 20/80 with glae. Eye movement recording confirmed markedly reduced vertical ocillation of the right eye. The patient continue on gabapentin with no ide effect and utained effect. Concluion The vertical nytagmoid movement in HBP can be coniderably reduced and ymptom remarkably improved when treated with oral gabapentin.
