Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the viual field with the ue of automated perimetry and to evaluate the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) with optical coherence tomography (OCT) in patient with buried optic nerve druen (OND).
Deign
Obervational cae control tudy.
Method
Eye with buried OND were defined a eye with ultraound-proved druen that were not viible with indirect lit-lamp biomicrocopy. All eye underwent automated perimetry. ome eye underwent OCT to evaluate the RNFL.
Reult
Fifty-eight eye of 41 patient with buried OND were evaluated. Three eye (5%) had inferior arcuate cotoma. The other 55 eye did not have viual field defect. Twenty-one of the eye without viual field defect underwent RNFL analyi with OCT. All 21 eye had normal average RNFL thickne. ome eye had focal RNFL defect, but it i not clear whether thee defect were clinically ignificant.
Concluion
Viual field defect are uncommon in eye with buried OND. Eye with buried OND may have focal RNFL defect but have normal average RNFL thickne. In patient with buried OND and a viual field defect, conideration hould be given to earching for other caue of the defect, epecially if the defect i ubtantial.
