Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the reult of replacing the poterior troma and endothelium, uing mall inciion deep lamellar endothelial keratoplaty (DLEK) urgical technique, in patient with corneal endothelial dyfunction.
Deign
Noncomparative cae erie.
Method
Fifteen eye of 15 patient (ix male and nine female) with endothelial dyfunction were included in thi tudy. Through a 5-mm cleral inciion, a deep lamellar pocket wa created acro the cornea, followed by exciion of an 8.0-mm dik of poterior lamellar corneal tiue. ame ize lamellar donor dik wa prepared and placed in poition without the need of uture fixation. Bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), refraction, endothelial cell denity, corneal topography, and corneal thickne were analyzed.
Reult
Average BCVA preoperative wa 20/200 (range 20/40 to hand movement (HM)), improving to 20/50 (range 20/20 to 20/120) at a mean follow-up of 7.2 month. Average refractive atigmatim at lat follow-up wa 1.46 ± 1.21 diopter (range, 0 to 4 diopter). Preoperative average donor endothelial cell denity wa 2047 ± 311 cell/mm2, and that at lat follow-up wa 1732 ± 514 cell/mm2. Preoperative average pachymetry wa 801.4 ± 211.3 μm, improving to 553 ± 90.4 μm at lat follow-up.
Concluion
Initial reult with mall inciion DLEK procedure indicate that it i a afe procedure that provide healthy donor endothelial cell count and function potoperatively, with encouraging viual reult.
