Deign
Literature review.
Method
Ovid Medline earche were performed on record from 1966 through 2005 uing keyword: keratiti, contact len complication, extended-wear contact lene, and ilicone-hydrogel contact lene.
Reult
Patient deire comfort, clarity of viion, and prolonged contact len wear when contact lene are ued to correct refractive error. Practitioner deire patient atifaction but alo require maintenance of the integrity of the eye and no complication that jeopardize viion or health of the eye. Improvement in the oxygen permeability of the contact len material, deign of the contact len and it urface, and olution for the maintenance of the len have reduced but not eliminated the rik of infection, inflammation, and conjunctival papillary reaction aociated with contact len wear. The leon of pat and recent hitory ugget that patient education and practitioner participation in the management of contact len wear continue to be critical factor for patient atifaction and afety in the extended wear of contact lene.
Concluion
The availability of highly oxygen permeable contact lene ha increaed the tolerance and afety of extended contact len wear, but patient intruction and education in proper ue and care of lene i required and caution i advied.
