Abstract :
Purpoe To invetigate the aociation between pattern of viual field (VF) lo and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickne meaurement. Deign Obervational cro-ectional tudy. Method One hundred twenty-one glaucoma patient and 65 healthy ubject from the Diagnotic Innovation in Glaucoma tudy (DIG) were included. All glaucoma patient had repeatable abnormal VF and canning laer polarimetry (LP) RNFL thickne meaurement. RNFL meaurement were obtained from 16 equal parapapillary ector. Pattern of VF lo were claified a arcuate, partial arcuate, naal tep, or paracentral in each VF hemifield. Logitic regreion analyi wa performed to determine which RNFL ector were aociated with each VF pattern. The ability of LP to dicriminate between eye with different VF pattern and healthy eye uing receiver operating characteritic (ROC) curve analye alo wa invetigated. Reult VF pattern in the uperior hemifield were ignificantly aociated with RNFL ector in the temporal inferior hemiretina (P < .05). ROC curve area for dicrimination between eye with different VF pattern and healthy eye ranged from 0.85 to 0.95. VF pattern in the inferior hemifield were mot trongly aociated with temporal uperior RNFL ector (P < .05). ROC curve area for dicrimination between different VF pattern and healthy eye ranged from 0.73 to 0.98. LP could dicriminate between apparently unaffected VF hemifield in glaucoma eye and VF hemifield in healthy eye. Concluion Parapapillary RNFL thickne wa topographically related to pattern of VF lo. LP can differentiate between apparently unaffected VF hemifield in glaucoma eye and normal VF hemifield in healthy eye.
