Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Optic Dik Cupping: The Beaver Dam Eye tudy Original Reearch Article

Purpoe To examine the aociation between preence, everity, and extent of leion of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and optic dik and cup diameter in a general population. Deign Cro-ectional tudy. Method etting: Population-baed. tudy population: Adult aged 43 to 86 year participating in the Beaver Dam Eye tudy. obervation procedure: Fundu photograph were graded for leion of AMD uing tandard protocol. The photograph were obtained during the baeline examination of the Beaver Dam Eye tudy. main outcome meaure: Optic dik cupping a related to preence, everity, and extent of leion of AMD. Reult There were no ignificant difference in the vertical optic dik and cup meaurement or in the vertical cup to dik ratio by everity of leion of AMD (P value all greater than .10). In thoe eye with late leion of AMD, there wa no aociation of the ize of the leion or their ditribution in the fundu and the extent of cupping. Concluion From a population perpective, there i no relationhip of the preence or everity of AMD and optic dik cupping.
