Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine the reliability of noncontact tonometry (NCT) in meauring intraocular preure (IOP) over a combination of amniotic membrane (AM) patch and therapeutic oft contact len (TCL) in normal human eye.
Deign
Experimental tudy.
Method
Twenty-five healthy volunteer (twenty male, five female) participated in thi tudy. After topical anetheia, IOP wa meaured uing noncontact tonometry before and after the application of a ingle layer of AM to the right eye and a double layer of AM to the left eye. To enable the IOP meaurement by NCT, a TCL wa placed over the AM patch. The thickne of a ingle or a double layer of AM wa meaured by pachymetry and correlated with the IOP reading.
Reult
We found no tatitical difference between IOP meaured with and without a combination of a ingle-layer AM/TCL (P = .734). In contrat, the IOP meaured over a combination of a double-layer AM/TCL decreaed ignificantly when compared with the control (P < .0001). The average thicknee of the ingle and the double layer of AM were 72.4 ± 15.0 μm and 126.9 ± 14.6 μm (mean ± D), repectively. There wa a negative correlation between total AM thickne and IOP change (r = −.481, P = .0008).
Concluion
We found that it i reliable to meaure IOP by NCT through a combination of a ingle-layer AM/TCL on normal human eye. However, IOP meaured by NCT over a combination of a double-layer AM/TCL wa inaccurate and tended to be an underetimation.
