Cytomegaloviru in Aqueou Humor From an Eye With Corneal Endotheliiti

Purpoe To report cytomegaloviru (CMV) DNA in aqueou humor from a patient with unilateral corneal endotheliiti. Deign Cae report. Method A 51-year-old man preented with unilateral corneal endotheliiti with linear keratic precipitate and coin-haped leion. Tear and aqueou humor ample were ubjected to polymerae chain reaction to look for DNA from herpe implex viru (HV), varicella zoter viru (VZV), and CMV. Reult Aqueou humor from the dieaed eye contained DNA from CMV but not HV or VZV. It pecificity wa confirmed by outhern blot tet. Intravenou ganciclovir treatment reulted in the localization of hi corneal edema and the reduction in keratic precipitate. There wa evere detruction of corneal endothelial cell. CMV DNA wa not detected in tear or control ample. Concluion In thi healthy man with corneal endotheliiti, we detected CMV DNA in aqueou humor from the affected eye, but not HV or VZV. Thi ugget that CMV may caue corneal endotheliiti in patient without immunodeficiency.
