Abstract :
Purpoe
To report two cae of a retinal pigment epithelial tear after intravitreal injection of pegaptanib odium. To our knowledge, thi i the firt report of thi finding after intraocular antivacular endothelial growth factor therapy.
Deign
Obervational cae report.
Method
Two patient preented with occult choroidal neovacularization and aociated erou pigment epithelial detachment that wa a reult of age-related macular degeneration. Both patient were treated with an intravitreal injection of pegaptanib odium.
Reult
One patient developed a retinal pigment epithelium tear one week after the intravitreal injection. The econd patient developed a retinal pigment epithelium tear eight week after treatment.
Concluion
Although thee cae may repreent natural hitory, there hould be a high index of upicion for retinal pigment epithelium tear in patient who report ignificant viual deterioration after intravitreal injection of pegaptanib odium. Further tudie are needed to determine whether angiographic ubtype of choroidal neovacular membrane are more uceptible to developing retinal pigment epithelium tear after treatment with antivacular endothelial growth factor agent.
