Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare the per-operative contamination of anterior chamber among eye undergoing manual mall-inciion cataract urgery (MIC) and phacoemulification (PE).
Deign
Propective, randomized, interventional clinical trial.
Method
In thi tudy conducted at a tertiary-care center in outhern India, 150 eye undergoing cataract urgery were randomly allocated to undergo MIC (group A, 75 eye) and PE (group B, 75 eye). Aqueou ample were taken before and at the end of urgery. Collected material wa ubjected to tandard microbiological analyi. No preoperative antibiotic were ued, but povidone-iodine 5% drop were intilled before urgery. Main outcome meaure tudied were the incidence of poitive culture in aqueou ample obtained from eye in both group.
Reult
The incidence of anterior chamber contamination in the MIC group (4%) did not ignificantly differ from the PE group (2.7%; P = .65).
Concluion
Incidence of anterior chamber contamination i imilar among eye undergoing MIC and PE.
