Abstract :
Purpoe
In it mot evere form, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) i located in poterior retina and affect the mallet, mot premature infant. We hypotheize that, depending on whether vaculogenei (de novo formation of new veel by tranformation of vacular precuror cell (VPC)) or angiogenei (budding from exiting veel) i perturbed, it reult in ignificant difference in clinical preentation and therapeutic outcome oberved in zone 1 v zone 2 ROP.
Deign
The tudy i a retropective analyi of the difference in outcome between zone 1 and 2 ROP after cryotherapy and laer therapy.
Method
A review of the clinical preentation of zone 1 and 2 ROP that correlate thi with the topography of formation of human retinal vaculature through vaculogenei and angiogenei.
Reult
Population data on uceptible infant, and outcome tatitic of clinical trial are given. Digital image how a correlation between ROP in zone 1 with the region of the retina vacularized through vaculogenei.
Concluion
Zone 1 ROP i correlated with veel development by vaculogenei, relative inenitivity to laer/cryotherapy and poorer anatomic and viual outcome. Thi ugget that, if the vaculogenic proce i perturbed, it reult in a ditinct clinical preentation, poorer repone to therapy, and poorer viual outcome. When the current international claification wa developed, knowledge of the procee of human retinal vacular development wa incomplete. The work preented here provide a framework for the development of a modification to incorporate thee idea without acrifice of the eential element of the international claification of ROP.
