Purpoe The aim of thi tudy i to determine if ytemic aborption i preent after 5-fluorouracil (5FU) i ued in the vitrectomy infuion. Deign A two-cae clinical tudy. Method A catabolite of 5FU, α-fluoro-β-alanine (FBAL), wa meaured in urine ample of two patient who underwent vitrectomy uing 5FU in the infuion fluid. Reult In both patient, FBAL wa found in the urine ample collected up to 48 hour after the urgery, although in ignificantly different concentration. Concluion The ue of 5FU in the vitrectomy infuion fluid to prevent the formation of proliferative vitreoretinopathy may lead to ignificant general aborption and may be avoided in children and young adult.
