Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the efficacy and afety of apraclonidine 0.5% in the diagnoi of Horner yndrome in pediatric patient. Deign Propective, interventional cae erie. Method Ten pediatric patient with a diagnoi of Horner yndrome and 10 age-matched control with phyiologic aniocoria underwent pharmacological teting with apraclonidine. The difference between the pupil diameter of both eye under low (room light off) and high (room light on) ambient illumination before and one hour after apraclonidine wa intilled wa recorded. Any advere effect during the examination or reported by the patient’ parent were recorded. Reult The mean difference in pupil diameter before and after apraclonidine teting in the Horner yndrome group were −2.05 mm and 0.97 mm, repectively, under low illumination (P = .0049) and −1.48 mm and 1.1 mm, repectively, under high illumination (P = .0051). Three patient with Horner yndrome howed poitive value (reveral of aniocoria) only under high ambient illumination, but not under low illumination. There wa no tatitical difference in the mean difference in pupil diameter before and after apraclonidine teting in the control group. Conjunctival hyperemia wa noted in two patient with Horner yndrome and in three patient in the control group. No ytemic advere effect were noted during the examination or were reported by patient’ parent. Concluion The application of apraclonidine in pediatric patient i afe and effective in the diagnoi of Horner yndrome. The reveral of aniocoria wa more obviou under high (room light on) ambient illumination.
