Abstract
Purpoe
To determine if an intraocular preure (IOP)-reducing device containing tungten powder decreae preure comparably to the traditional mercury-containing apparatu.
Deign
Propective randomized, ingle-blind, controlled, phae I equivalence tudy.
Method
At a tertiary care center, both eye of 24 volunteer with normal IOP were treated with an ocular compreion device containing either liquid mercury or tungten powder. The IOP wa meaured at baeline and after 10 minute of ocular compreion.
Reult
The mean reduction in IOP wa 3.6 mm Hg ± 2.0 with the mercury-containing device and 4.4 mm Hg ± 2.1 with the tungten-filled apparatu. An equivalence tudy analyi uing a paired t-tet and a equential analyi protocol did not demontrate a tatitically ignificant difference between the IOP-lowering effect of the two device.
Concluion
The IOP-lowering effect produced by a tungten powder-filled balloon ocular decompreion device compared with a traditional mercury-containing device wa not tatitically different.
