Early Onet Endophthalmiti Caued by Apergillu pecie Following Cataract urgery

Purpoe To report a erie of patient with early onet Apergillu endophthalmiti following cataract urgery. Deign Retropective conecutive cae erie. Method Medical record were reviewed of all cae of endophthalmiti caued by Apergillu after cataract urgery treated at the author’ practice between 1992 and 2005. Reult Five patient were identified. Two patient were immunocompromied (one on oral corticoteroid and one on chemotherapy for lung cancer). The mean number of day between cataract urgery and diagnoi with endophthalmiti wa 29 (range, 10 to 62 day). Three eye (60%) were enucleated depite a variety of treatment. In addition to vitrectomy and injection of antifungal agent, the other two eye underwent urgical debridement of a localized necrotic nidu. Final viual acuity wa 20/30 in one eye and 20/200 in the remaining eye. Concluion Apergillu hould be conidered in the differential diagnoi of early onet endophthalmiti following cataract urgery. Viual outcome are generally poor and enucleation i common in thee patient.
