Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate whether retinal veel abnormalitie are aociated with early or late age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in adult Chinee.
Deign
Population-baed prevalence tudy.
Method
The Beijing Eye tudy included 4439 (83.4%) ubject of 5324 living in a rural area or urban region of Greater Beijing, age older than 40+ year, and invited to participate. The participant underwent a detailed ophthalmic examination, including fundu photography. The photograph were graded uing the Wiconin Age-Related Maculopathy Grading ytem for evaluation of AMD, and uing the Atherocleroi Rik in Communitie protocol for aement of retinal vacular abnormalitie. We examined focal and generalized arteriolar narrowing, arteriolar heathing, and arteriovenou croing abnormalitie.
Reult
Fundu photograph were available for 8655 eye of 4376 (98.6%) ubject. Neither early nor late AMD wa ignificantly (P > .15) aociated with any of the retinal vacular abnormalitie.
Concluion
Retinal vacular abnormalitie are not markedly aociated with the prevalence of early or late AMD.
