Ocular Finding Among Thalaemia Patient

Purpoe The tudy aim at tudying the ophthalmologic tatu in a group of thalaemia patient. Deign A cro-ectional tudy. Method Eighty-four thalaemia patient were randomly elected and underwent an ophthalmologic examination. Reult Viual acuity (VA) wa affected in 13 patient and retinal pigment epithelial change were detected in 21 patient. Decreae in VA wa found to be ignificantly aociated with type of thalaemia (P < .05) and having plenectomy (P = .05). Retinal pigment epithelium change, converely, were ignificantly aociated with type of iron chelation. Concluion The occurrence of ophthalmologic problem in Lebanee thalaemic patient i common. Thee patient, epecially thoe with evere anemia, hould be creened for uch complication. However, the reult were not concluive on whether thee complication are attributable to the anemia, the iron overload, or a ide effect of the iron chelating agent.
