  • Abstract
    Purpoe To determine the proper management of congenital dacryocytocele. Deign Retropective interventional cae erie. Method etting: Clinical practice. tudy population: Twenty-even conecutive patient with 29 congenital dacryocytocele who preented from 1987 through 2006. main outcome meaure: The chart were reviewed for the preence and age of onet of infection, method and age of treatment, and repone to treatment. Reult Dacryocytiti and preeptal celluliti requiring intravenou antibiotic therapy were preent in 11 lacrimal ytem (37.9%), and dacryocytiti without celluliti wa preent in an additional 10 lacrimal ytem (34.5%). One or more probing were performed in 26 patient (89.7%). Reolution with conervative therapy occurred in three lacrimal ytem. The initial probing wa ucceful in even of even lacrimal ytem (100%) that did not have infection, but wa ucceful in only 10 of 19 lacrimal ytem (53%) that had dacryocytiti with or without celluliti. The mean age of probing in the urgical patient who did not develop infection wa 5.9 day, wherea the mean age at firt probing in urgical patient who developed infection wa 17.3 day. Concluion Patient with congenital dacryocytocele hould have probing on an urgent bai and a early in life a poible, unle the lacrimal ac decompree into the noe at the time of the initial examination. Thi approach will reduce the incidence of dacryocytiti and celluliti, and improve the ucce rate of urgery.
