Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the correlation of functional viual acuity (FVA) meaurement with ocular urface finding in patient with teven-Johnon yndrome (J).
Deign
Propective comparative tudy.
Method
ixty-nine eye of 38 patient with chronic J aeed at the Tokyo Dental College, Tokyo Medical Center, and the Kyoto Prefectural Univerity of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Kyoto, Japan, were tudied. Twenty eye of 10 normal ubject and 40 eye of 20 patient with jögren yndrome () were alo tudied. Conventional Landolt viual acuity (VA) and FVA examination and lit-lamp examination were performed. FVA wa meaured continuouly by the FVA meaurement ytem during a 30-econd blink-free period in one eye. The viual maintenance ratio (VMR) wa calculated a follow: VMR = [(2.7 − FVA)/(2.7 − baeline VA)], where logarithm of minimal angle of reolution value of FVA were entered into the formula and 2.7 repreented the lowet viual acuity in thi erie. lit-lamp examination, chirmer tet, and fluorecein vital taining were alo performed in all ubject.
Reult
VMR wa markedly lower in patient with J compared with patient with and control. FVA value howed a relation with the preence of corneal opacity and vacularization.
Concluion
The FVA meaurement ytem i not only a ueful tool in the evaluation of dynamic VA change, but alo reflect the ocular urface clinical finding in J.
