Abstract :
Purpoe
To tet viual field threhold of normal children with frequency doubling technology (FDT) perimetry to quantify teting time and reliability characteritic in a pediatric population and to determine whether current method of tratifying adult threhold value need reviion for children.
Deign
Propective cro-ectional tudy.
Method
Ninety-four children, age 5 to 17 year, were recruited from local pediatric clinic and the general community and were teted at one center. Children likely to have abnormal viual field or abnormal tet taking ability becaue of ophthalmic, neurologic, or behavioral problem were excluded. Children were aked to perform a threhold FDT viual field with each of their eye. Threhold reult were gathered, analyzed, and compared with the tandard that have been etablihed for tet in adult. Reult were validated by teting a further 72 children, with the ame protocol, at a different center.
Reult
For children older than 14 year, threhold mean deviation value were within normal limit according to the adult normative databae that i ued currently in FDT perimetry. Below 15 year of age, mean deviation for normal children decreaed with decreaing age. The bet linear fit wa given by a mean deviation of −11.43 ± 0.82 dB × age (R2 = 0.18; P < 10−5).
Concluion
Thi reearch etablihe a normative model for pediatric viual field teting with FDT and, by a comparion of threhold reult for normal children to etablihed adult norm, provide evidence that parameter for normal enitivity mut be revied for children younger than 15 year.
