Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine whether a 10-Item Neuro-Ophthalmic upplement increae the capacity of the 25-Item National Eye Intitute Viual Function Quetionnaire (NEI-VFQ-25) to capture elf-reported viual dyfunction in patient with neuro-ophthalmologic diorder.
Deign
A cro-ectional urvey to examine the characteritic of a 10-Item Neuro-Ophthalmic upplement to the 25-Item NEI-VFQ-25 in a cohort of patient with neuro-ophthalmologic diorder.
Method
The 10-Item Neuro-Ophthalmic upplement wa deigned previouly by our reearch group by urvey and focu-group method. In the preent tudy, the NEI-VFQ-25 and 10-Item upplement were adminitered concurrently to patient and dieae-free control ubject. High-contrat viual acuitie with patient uual ditance correction were meaured with the ue of Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy tudy (ETDR) chart.
Reult
Diagnoe for patient (n = 215) included optic neuriti, multiple cleroi, idiopathic intracranial hypertenion, ichemic optic neuropathy, troke, ocular myathenia gravi, ocular motor palie, and thyroid eye dieae. core for the 10-Item upplement had a ignificant capacity to ditinguih patient v dieae-free control ubject that wa independent of the NEI-VFQ-25 compoite core (odd ratio in favor of patient v control tatu for 10-point worening in upplement core: 2.7 [95% confidence interval [CI], 1.6, 4.6]; P < .001, logitic regreion model that account for NEI-VFQ-25 compoite core, age, and gender). Patient with viual dyfunction (binocular nellen equivalent wore than 20/20) had ignificantly lower mean core (9–21 point lower); thee difference remained ignificant after accounting for age and gender (P ≥ .001, linear regreion). upplement item and compoite core demontrated appropriate degree of internal conitency reliability.
Concluion
The 10-Item Neuro-Ophthalmic upplement demontrate a capacity to capture elf-reported viual dyfunction beyond that of the NEI-VFQ-25 alone, which upport validity for thi new cale. The ue of the 10-Item upplement in clinical trial and epidemiologic tudie will examine it capacity to demontrate treatment effect in longitudinal cohort.
