Abstract :
Purpoe
To decribe the intraoperative and potoperative complication encountered during the firt year of follow-up in the Tube Veru Trabeculectomy (TVT) tudy.
Deign
Multicenter randomized clinical trial.
Method
etting: eventeen clinical center. tudy population: Two hundred twelve patient aged 18 to 85 year who had undergone previou trabeculectomy and/or cataract extraction with intraocular len implantation and uncontrolled glaucoma with intraocular preure ≥18 mm Hg and ≤40 mm Hg on maximum tolerated medical therapy. intervention: A 350-mm2 Baerveldt glaucoma implant or trabeculectomy with mitomycin C (MMC). main outcome meaure: urgical complication, reoperation for complication, viual acuity, and cataract progreion.
Reult
Intraoperative complication occurred in even patient (7%) in the tube group and 10 patient (10%) in the trabeculectomy group (P = .59). Potoperative complication developed in 36 patient (34%) in the tube group and 60 patient (57%) in the trabeculectomy group during the firt year of follow-up (P = .001). urgical complication were aociated with reoperation and/or lo of ≥2 line of nellen viual acuity in 18 patient (17%) in the tube group and 28 patient (27%) in the trabeculectomy group (P = .12).
Concluion
There were a large number of urgical complication during the firt year of follow-up in the tudy, but mot were elf-limited. The incidence of potoperative complication wa higher after trabeculectomy with MMC than nonvalved tube hunt urgery. eriou complication reulting in reoperation and/or viion lo occurred with imilar frequency with both urgical procedure.
