Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the effect of oral cannabinoid on retinal hemodynamic aeed by video fluorecein angiography in healthy ubject.
Deign
Interventional tudy.
Method
In a elf-experiment, the cannabinoid dronabinol (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol [THC]) wa adminitered orally to eight healthy medical doctor (7.5 mg Marinol; Unimed Pharmaceutical, Chicago, Illinoi, UA). At baeline and two hour after dronabinol intake, intraocular preure (IOP) wa meaured and retinal hemodynamic were aeed by fluorecein angiography. The retinal arteriovenou paage time wa determined on the bai of dye dilution curve by mean of digital image analyi in a maked fahion.
Reult
Dronabinol reulted in a ignificant IOP reduction from 13.2 ± 1.9 mm Hg to 11.8 ± 2.0 mm Hg (P = .038). The retinal arteriovenou paage time decreaed from 1.77 ± 0.35 econd to 1.57 ± 0.31 econd (P = .028). ytemic blood preure and heart rate were not tatitically ignificantly altered.
Concluion
Cannabinoid, already known for their ability to reduce IOP, may reult in increaed retinal hemodynamic. Thi may be beneficial in ocular circulatory diorder, including glaucoma.
