Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the clinical feature and outcome of extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucoa-aociated lymphoid tiue type (MALT lymphoma) in the lacrimal gland. Deign Retropective, noncomparative, obervational cae erie in an academic referral etting. Method A conecutive erie of 13 hitologically verified MALT lymphoma in the lacrimal gland at preentation wa tudied. Clinical characteritic, treatment, and prognoi were analyzed. Reult Eight male and five female with a median age of 64 year and a median follow-up time of 48 month were included. All patient had no prior lymphoma and initially preented a MALT lymphoma in the lacrimal gland. Extraorbital involvement at diagnoi wa noted in ix patient (46.2%). Two patient had autoimmune dieae, and both had tage IV dieae at preentation. Treatment conited of urgical reection in one patient, radiotherapy in four, chemotherapy in four, and combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy in four. Complete remiion were obtained in eight patient (61.5%). Patient with bilateral dieae (61.5%) had a higher rate of advanced-tage dieae and a poor outcome. Recurrence wa noted in two patient. At the lat follow-up, eight patient were free of dieae, three were alive with dieae, one died of epi a a complication of chemotherapy, and one died of lymphoma. Concluion MALT lymphoma in the lacrimal gland ha a high rate of extraorbital involvement and ynchronou bilateral lacrimal gland involvement at preentation. The prognoi i relatively poor, epecially in patient with advanced dieae and bilateral involvement. Extenive taging and long-term follow-up are warranted for thee patient.
