Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare the in vitro effect of a ingle brief indocyanine green (ICG) expoure with a double expoure on retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cell.
Deign
In vitro laboratory experimental tudy.
Method
Human ARPE-19 cell were expoed to a ingle dilute ICG expoure (0.5 mg/ml) or to two equential expoure of identical volume and concentration. Viability wa meaured with a mitochondrial dehydrogenae aay and compared with nonexpoed control cell.
Reult
Cell viability wa not tatitically different between the ingle-expoed, double-expoed, or control cell population.
Concluion
When ued intraoperatively to tain the internal limiting membrane, dilute ICG dye ometime doe not adequately enhance viualization of the internal limiting membrane. Occaionally, it i neceary to repeat the dye expoure to achieve the deired viibility. In thi tudy, RPE cell ubjected to two conecutive hort expoure of ICG howed no marked difference in cell urvival when compared with cell expoed to a ingle application of ICG and to control cell.
