Abstract :
Purpoe To ae the effect of verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT) in juxtafoveal choroidal neovacularization (CNV) econdary to pathologic myopia (PM). Deign Propective, open-label, conecutive, interventional cae erie. Method We propectively followed a erie of 48 conecutive patient (49 eye) with pathologic myopia (≥ 6 diopter) who received verteporfin PDT for juxtafoveal CNV. Thi population wa divided into two group baed on age (group A ≤ 55 year old, group B >55 year old), in three ubgroup baed on CNV leion ize, and in three categorie baed on refractive error at baeline. Reult The median follow-up wa 32 month (range, 12 to 56 month). Viual acuity (VA) improved by 1 or more nellen line in 18 eye (37%), decreaed in 12 eye (24%), and remained table in 19 eye (39%). The median number of line gained wa 2.15, while the median number of line lot wa 2.4. The final mean VA in group A (mean age, 43.9 year) wa 20/50 (logMAR 0.41, tandard deviation [D] 0.3) and ignificantly better (P = .01) than the 20/105 (logMAR 0.72, D 0.5) in group B (mean age, 67.8 year). Neither CNV ize nor refractive error magnitude influenced viual outcome. Concluion Verteporfin PDT i a promiing treatment modality reulting in table or improved viion in 76% of the myopic eye with juxtafoveal CNV. Younger patient appear to repond more favorably to treatment.
