Abstract :
Purpoe To determine the natural evolution and urgical indication of myopic foveochii (MF), which are till poorly documented, and the factor that predict poor prognoi. Deign Retropective obervational cae erie. Method Twenty-nine operated and nonoperated cae of MF (29 eye of 23 patient) were tudied. All eye underwent repeated examination, including optical coherence tomographic (OCT) recording, during a mean follow-up of 31.2 month. pecial attention wa paid to the evolution of viual acuity (VA) and to the thickne of foveochii. Reult Mean refraction wa −14.4 diopter, and mean axial length wa 29.1 mm. OCT can revealed that the foveochii wa aociated with macular anomalie: a premacular tructure in 13 (44.8%) of 29 eye, a foveal detachment in 10 (34.5%) of 29 eye, and a lamellar macular hole in ix (20.7%) of 29 eye. Iolated foveochii wa found in four eye (13.8%). During follow-up, foveochii and VA worened in 20 eye and remained table in nine. Ten of the 20 eye that worened had a premacular tructure. A macular hole occurred in nine eye, ix of which had previouly exhibited foveal detachment. Eleven eye with foveochii underwent urgery, which improved VA ignificantly (P = .04, Wilcoxon tet), but three eye developed a macular hole. Concluion MF may remain table for many year without affecting VA. However, when it i combined with the preence of a premacular tructure, the rik of a decreae in VA increae. When it i combined with foveal detachment, a macular hole eem to develop frequently, whether or not urgery i performed.
