Abstract

To correlate viual acuity meaured with the Optec 800 to the gold-tandard Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy tudy (ETDR) chart.
Deign
Propective, cro-ectional tudy.
Method
Forty patient of the Vanderbilt Eye Intitute agreed to undergo viual acuity teting. Five patient were excluded becaue of enucleation or functional blindne of one or both eye. Two patient were excluded becaue of poor cooperation during teting. Patient were randomized to one of the two method and participated in viual acuity teting in a forced-choice manner. The equence wa repeated with the alternate intrument. A total-correct core wa calculated for each data et.
Reult
There wa no tatitically ignificant difference in core between the two method (P1 = .153, P2 = .307.) Other factor uch a gender, age, and intrument teting order did not affect performance. Age wa inverely correlated with total correct core.
Concluion
In thi mall cohort, the Optec 800 (Chicago, Illinoi, UA) and the ETDR chart recorded imilar viual acuity meaurement.
