Abstract :
Purpoe
To examine ymmetry of macular, peripapillary nerve fiber layer (NFL), and optic dik meaurement in healthy children.
Deign
Cro-ectional tudy.
Method
We examined a population-baed ample of ix-year-old children (n = 1,765) in the ydney Childhood Eye tudy. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) can data for right and left eye were compared.
Reult
High interocular correlation (>0.8) were found for foveal minimum thickne and cup-to-dik ratio. Average NFL thickne wa moderately correlated (0.7). Other macular, NFL, and optic dik parameter howed negligible or mall mean interocular difference. In 95% of children, interocular difference in macular thickne wa <22 μm for foveal minimum and <40 μm for other area, and 16 to 17μm for average NFL thickne. Cup-to-dik ratio wa highly ymmetric, varying by <0.25 in 95% of children.
Concluion
Interocular aymmetry of retinal/optic dik parameter hould be interpreted in the context of other clinical meaure becaue of the potential for large degree of aymmetry among individual.
