Purpoe To determine the feaibility of a cae-control tudy of phophodieterae (PDE)-5 inhibitor and nonarteritic ichemic optic neuropathy (NION). Deign Retropective cohort tudy uing the National Veteran Health Adminitration’ pharmacy and clinical databae. Method etting: National databae. patient population: Male veteran 50 year of age and older with newly diagnoed NION or “poible” NION. interventional procedure: Dipened precription for a PDE-5 inhibitor. outcome meaure: Incidence of NION and “poible” NION baed on expoure to PDE-5 inhibitor. Reult The relative rik of NION among men precribed a PDE-5 inhibitor wa 1.02 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.92 to 1.12). The relative rik of poible NION among men precribed a PDE-5 inhibitor wa 1.34 (95% CI: 1.17 to 1.55). Concluion The collective rik of NION and poible NION wa marginally ignificant (relative rik [RR] 1.10 95% CI: 1.02 to 1.20).
