Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine if corneal hyterei (CH) wa aociated with increaed central corneal thickne (CCT) induced by wearing oft contact lene during eye cloure.
Deign
A propective laboratory invetigation.
Method
CCT wa meaured with a modified optical coherence tomography (OCT), and CH wa meaured with a Reichert Ocular Repone Analyzer (ORA) [Reichert Ophthalmic Intrument, Depew, New York, UA]. The ORA alo determined value for intraocular preure (IOP), corneal compenated IOP (IOPcc), and corneal reitance factor (CRF). One randomly elected eye of 20 non–contact len wearer (four male and 16 female, age 19.7 ± 1.1 year) wa patched during three hour of oft contact len wear. Meaurement were made before len inertion, immediately upon removal, and every 20 minute thereafter for 100 minute.
Reult
Immediately after contact len removal, CCT wa increaed by 13.1 ± 2.2% (mean ± D) compared with baeline (pot hoc, P = .001). After 100 minute, it remained elevated by 2.4 ± 1.6% (pot hoc, P = .001). However, there were no ignificant difference of CH at any time after len wear (analyi of variance [ANOVA], P = .9). Immediately after len removal, there were ignificant increae in IOP (pot hoc, P = .003) and corneal reitance factor (CRF) (pot-hoc, P = .015), but not in IOPcc (pot hoc, P = .07). After len wear, there were ignificant but weak correlation between the percentage change of CCT (CCT%) and IOP (r = 0.32, P = .001) and IOPcc (r = 0.29, P = .001). However, there wa no ignificant correlation between CCT% and CH (r = 0.07, P = .458).
Concluion
CH a meaured by ORA wa not aociated with corneal welling induced by oft contact len wear in thi tudy group.
