Abstract :
Purpoe
To examine intravitreal ilicone oil ample for lipophilic ubtance, including choleterol, fatty acid, and derived methyl eter.
Deign
Clinical interventional cae erie tudy.
Method
The tudy included 53 patient (53 eye; mean age 57.6 year) who underwent removal of intravitreal ilicone oil ued for intraocular tamponade with par plana vitrectomy for retinal detachment. The ilicone oil wa removed 8.3 ± 5.7 month after par plana vitrectomy and analyzed uing ga chromatography with a flame ionization detector.
Reult
Choleterol wa preent in all ample with a mean concentration of 65 ± 32.3 μg/ml (95% confidence interval: 56.1 to 73.9 μg/ml). The concentration increaed (P < .001) with the time of tamponade, and decreaed (P = .003) with the age of the patient. Fatty acid along with derived methyl acid were detected in low concentration in 49 ample (92.5%).
Concluion
Choleterol and lipophilic acid accumulate in intravitreal ilicone oil ued in intraocular tamponade.
