Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate a new technique for penetrating keratoplaty (PK) with the ue of a new oftware algorithm for a femtoecond laer that i deigned to create penetrating cut for PK in the treatment of a number of corneal dieae. Deign Propective, interventional cae erie. Method All eye were treated at the Opedale Civile di Metre, Umberto, Italy. even eye of even patient underwent urgery for PK uing a 15-kHz femtoecond laer (IntraLae, Irvine, California, UA) and a new oftware pecifically developed for corneal urgery. Of the even patient, five were keratoconu patient and two had bullou keratopathy. New oftware wa ued to create penetrating cut in a top hat or muhroom configuration. After urgery, all patient were evaluated with pachymetry, corneal topography, refraction, intraocular preure meaurement, and corneal optical coherence tomography (Viante; Carl Zei, Oberkochen, Germany). Reult On potoperative day one, all even eye had nearly clear cornea with a good graft of the donor cornea to the patient’ cornea. At three month, all eye had clear cornea with good endothelial cell count and quiet anterior chamber. Normal corneal thickne wa achieved in each cae. At the three-month viit, uture removal wa performed in five eye to adjut for atigmatim. Concluion Although thi i a mall number of eye, early indication are that the ue of the new IntraLae oftware for corneal urgery create a more favorable environment for PK a a reult of a better fit of the donor cornea and a quicker viual recovery for patient.
