Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare the anatomic outcome of len-paring vitrectomy (LV) with thoe of combined LV and cleral buckle (B) in urgical repair of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) tage 4 retinal detachment.
Deign
Retropective, interventional, conecutive cae erie.
Method
Twenty-one eye of 15 patient with tage 4 ROP detachment were enrolled. All patient were elected from conecutive patient with tage 4 ROP detachment treated with LV alone or combined LV and B. Patient characteritic, including getational age, birth weight, gender, corrected getational age at time of urgery, urgical procedure, anatomic outcome, ability to fix and follow, and progreion of cataract or glaucoma were recorded.
Reult
Twelve of 21 eye underwent the combined procedure (LV with B), and the remaining nine eye underwent LV alone. Eighteen (86%) of 21 eye achieved retinal reattachment overall, with even (87%) of eight tage 4B detachment repaired in one urgery. Eleven (85%) of 13 tage 4A detachment were repaired in one urgery. Of the patient in whom treatment failed, two were in the LV with B group (2/12; 16%) and one wa in the LV alone group (1/9; 11%).
Concluion
The data ugget that B add little to the ucce or failure of LV and therefore i an unneceary adjunct to LV for tage 4 ROP.
