Abstract :
Purpoe
To tudy the prevalence of atigmatim in patient with epiblepharon and keratopathy and to determine if atigmatim wa influenced by urgical correction.
Deign
Thi i a retropective review of 182 eye of 91 patient who were diagnoed with ignificant epiblepharon at the National Univerity Hopital, ingapore.
Method
Demographic data, bet-corrected viual acuity, refractive error at preentation and annually thereafter, preence of amblyopia, everity of keratopathy, and nature of urgical intervention if any were recorded.
Reult
Mean age of the patient wa 7.23 ± 6.43 year. 52.2% of patient had atigmatim of 1 diopter (D) or more (range, −0.5 to −4.0 D), and the atigmatim wa largely with-the-rule. There wa no ignificant aociation between everity of keratopathy and atigmatim. Nine percent of patient had amblyopia after pectacle correction and all had ignificant atigmatim. A total of 70.3% of patient underwent urgery and mean time to urgery wa 12.2 ± 13.1 month after diagnoi. Mean age to urgery wa 7.5 ± 7.12 year. Comparion of pre- and potoperative atigmatim in patient younger than age 5 at the time of urgery howed no ignificant change in atigmatim at one to two year of follow-up.
Concluion
There wa high prevalence of atigmatim in patient with epiblepharon (52.2% had 1 D or more of atigmatim). A total of 9% of patient had amblyopia from atigmatim. urgery did not eem to affect atigmatim epecially in young children. Poibility of amblyopia from atigmatim mut be borne in mind while treating children with epiblepharon.
